Now that summer has hit, it’s officially festival season in County Galway. Events will take place in in every corner of Galway over the next few months celebrating culture, arts, food, music and everything in between. Here’s our top picks for family festivals in Galway:
Westend Street Feast
The Westend Street Fest will take place on Ravens Terrace on Bank Holiday Monday June 3rd from 11.00am to 4.00pm. The Street Feast brings together the much loved and award-winning businesses in the area and allows visitors to sample a taste of each. Participants include: Kai Restaurant, Dela Restaurant, John Keogh’s Bar, An Tobar Nua and lots more.
Entry is free and traffic will be closed off from Ravens Terrace on the day. There’ll be entertainment with live music and face painting for the kids. This is a family-friendly day in the Westend that aims to encourage people to cross the bridge and enjoy this much-loved area of Galway.
Galway International Arts Festival
The 42nd Galway International Arts Festival will take place with a series of events happening across Galway from the 15th to the 18th of July 2019. The annual festival has a proven track record for showcasing amazing productions across stage, film, music and art that have gone on to tour the world. You might even spot some famous faces in attendance.
Most of the festival’s events are ticketed and you can choose which ones you would like to attend from their extensive program. There are family friendly events too with street performers, children’s theatre, visual arts and First Thought Talks.
Galway Garden Festival
The 10th Galway Garden Festival will take place at Claregalway Castle on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th of July 2019 from 11.00am to 6.00pm. Festival highlights include expert gardening talks, rare and native plant exhibitions, gardening supplies stalls and artisan food stands.
What about entertainment you ask? There’ll be live music, street performers, magicians, clowns, dancers and more. There’s something for everyone in the family! Entry is €10 per person each day of the festival and children go free. Proceeds from the festival will be donated to the Christian Blind Mission.
A celebration of traditional Irish music, Traidphicnic takes place in the Gaelteacht region of Spiddal from the 5th to the 7th of July. Back for its 8th year, Traidphichnic’s program is jam packed with traditional Irish music, singing and dancing as well as visual art performances and crafts.
Entry to the festival is free, however a donation is encouraged upon entry for its upkeep. There will be lots happening over the weekend for children too so grab the family, pack a picnic and make your way to the Wild Atlantic Way for Traidphicnic.
