The leisure centre team consists of a number of trained, experienced and highly qualified members, all of whom have worked in the leisure industry for a number of years.
Clare Gohery, Leisure Centre Manager
A Galway native, Clare’s interest in health and fitness began many years ago. She always enjoyed swimming, and quickly pursued her dream and completed the course to become a qualified lifeguard. Shortly after this she got a job as a lifeguard in a city centre pool. Here she was very quickly promoted to the position of manager where she remained for 17 years. She really built the business and her experience is profound. Throughout those years she completed received an Aqua ITEC qualification and commenced a series of classes including swimming and aqua. Following on from this she gained another invaluable 5 years of experience in a leisure centre in Ballinasloe with 1600 members. Since 2012 Clare has been using her years of experience to build the leisure business at Clayton Hotel Galway. She continues to upskill and complete as many courses as possible with a particular emphasis on safety. In addition to swimming and aqua qualifications, she has also attained certification as a gym instructor and personal trainer.
Sean joined our leisure team in 2017, he started in the industry in 2008 completing Fetac Level 5 in Sports and Nutrition in Galway Community College before heading to University College Limerick where he continued his studies receiving his diploma in National Certificate in Exercise and Fitness.
A world champion in powerlifting in 2010 and 2012 his knowledge and skill in this area of fitness has been a huge benefit to our members and hotel guests.
His expertise is in fitness designing programmes catering for the experienced gym user to the complete beginner focusing on the individual their goals, time and needs. A swim instructor he can combine both skills for an all-round workout.
Kieran has been working in the leisure industry for 6 years and has a vast amount of experience with particular emphasis on poolside.
He joined our team in 2015, a swim instructor, lifeguard trainer recently obtaining a qualification as an assessor for lifeguard courses, he specializes in adult swim lessons and offers one to one training for swim events including triathlons. He currently is running junior lifeguard courses for kids in the club and also offers lifeguard courses for adults.
Rhys is the newest member of the team Rhys only joined us this year. He has a keen interest in swimming and all things fitness. He is a regular gym user and has a keen interest in hurling playing for his local hurling club Castlegar. He hopes to soon qualify as a swim teacher and join his colleagues in teaching the vast amount of classes we offer.
The leisure centre at Clayton Hotel Galway offer residents of the hotel complimentary access to the leisure facilities including a 20m pool, a poolside sauna and steamroom, and a compact fitness suite. Pool membership options are also available for non-residents, as are a number of group and private swimming lessons for both adults and children.
