The leisure centre at Clayton Hotel Galway under the lead of leisure centre manager Clare Gohery were the proud recipients of an emerald White Flag Award in 2014 and have furthermore progressed to a Diamond Award at the Ireland Active National White Flag Quality Standards Awards in 2015. The White Flag leisure centre awards are the main social event in the calendar year for those working in the leisure industry, and was attended by over 250 delegates. The awards place emphasis on the highest standards in hygiene and environmental activities.
What is The White Flag Award?
The White Flag National Quality Standard, grades facilities’ operational standards, similar to the Blue Flag award which classifies Ireland’s beaches, and it is fast becoming the most sought after accolade in the leisure industry! It is the only industry specific award for the Irish Leisure and Spa Industry. White Flag winning leisure centre, must meet a number of criteria in order to be awarded a White Flag. The White Flag is based on four essential areas when operating any leisure centre or spa – safety, hygiene, customer engagement and HR. The standard is designed to encourage continuous improvement.
The jury panel involved in the selection is chaired by Swim Ireland, Irish Hotels Federation, the Consumer Association, and the National Lifeguard Training Programme. It is an extremely prestigious accolade, and is essentially a mark of quality within the industry.

The leisure centre at Clayton Hotel Galway includes a 20m pool, sauna, steamroom, and fitness suite. The leisure facilities are available to residents of Clayton Hotel Galway on a complimentary basis for the duration of a guests stay. Clare and the award winning team are always on hand to answer any questions or queries you may have during your stay.
The pool is also open for memberships for non-residents. Membership is available on a three, six or nine month basis, from €85. In addition to this, the leisure centre offer a number group and individual of swimming classes for both adults and children. There is also an option to join aqua aerobics or the ever popular baby swimming classes, which are conducted by external qualified teachers from the famous company Water Babies.
